Inyo County Criminal Court Cases
The Superior Court of California, County of Inyo is the county trial court for both felonies and misdemeanors. Inyo County does not divide these criminal cases between a district clerk and a lower county clerk. Local rules record that the former municipal and superior court duties were unified in 1998. The same court now holds the filed complaint, docket, hearing record, disposition, and sentence.
Criminal hearings may be assigned to Department 1 at the Independence Courthouse or Department 4 at the Bishop Courthouse. The clerk is the record custodian at both counters. A police report or Inyo County Jail booking can explain the event or custody intake, but neither replaces the court case. When charges were filed, the clerk's file is the best source for the judicial result.
Two Inyo County Criminal Courts
Inyo County's split courthouse system matters when checking a hearing or asking for a file at the counter. Both locations serve criminal matters, and the shared court phone is (760) 872-3038. Each counter is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a noon to 1:00 p.m. closure. Phone hours generally run from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding court holidays and closures.

Searching Inyo County Case Records
There is no single statewide California public criminal case search. Inyo County offers several narrower routes. Pick the route based on whether the goal is a hit/no-hit answer, case details, a court date, or payment information.
- Use the Name Search Request and email it to searches@inyocourt.ca.gov for a no-fee electronic hit/no-hit search from 1992 forward.
- Use the Records Search Request when case numbers, charges, dispositions, docket entries, copies, or certification are needed.
- Check the daily or weekly court calendar for a scheduled hearing, while remembering that confidential matters are omitted.
- Try ePay-it for an eligible citation, criminal fine, payment plan, or invoice, not for a complete criminal file.
- Call or visit the Inyo County court clerk when an older file, sealed status, changing calendar, or unclear result needs direct review.
Note: A no-hit name response does not certify that no older, sealed, misspelled, or out-of-county record exists.
Inyo County Name Search Limits
The local court's records search page explains the sharp difference between its two forms. The name form checks the electronic case system from 1992 to the present and returns only a hit or no-hit result. The records form supports a deeper search and copies. It also has a box for records older than ten years, which matters when the electronic index does not settle the question.
The official records page is shown below. It is the starting point for choosing the correct Inyo County criminal court request.

The court's own instructions keep a simple name check separate from a paid file search, so readers should decide what proof they need before submitting a form.
Inside an Inyo County Case File
An Inyo County criminal case file tracks what the prosecutor filed and what the court did. It can show the charge at disposition rather than just the initial arrest allegation. The records request form asks for the fields that are most useful when an arrest report, jail entry, or old summary lacks the outcome.
| Case Number and Court | Identifies the Inyo County matter and the department or courthouse tied to proceedings. |
|---|---|
| Offense and Charges | Shows the offense date and misdemeanor or felony charges at disposition. |
| Docket and Hearings | Lists filings, court events, plea activity, motions, and scheduled appearances available in the public file. |
| Disposition | Records the date and result, including fine only, probation, jail, CDCR, or dismissal. |
| Copies | May include a docket, case summary, or selected public documents ordered from the clerk. |
| Certification | Adds the clerk's formal certification when an official court copy is required. |
The file may not show confidential, juvenile, sealed, or restricted material. A public calendar is even narrower because it is a date list, not the underlying docket.
Inyo County Court Record Fees
The deeper Inyo County records request is a mail workflow. Send it to P.O. Box 1508, Bishop, CA 93515 with a self-addressed stamped envelope and a check sufficient for the search and requested copies. The court publishes distinct charges for search work, pages, and certification.
| Service | Published Fee | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Electronic name hit/no-hit | No fee | Search of the electronic system from 1992 forward |
| Formal records search | $15 per name | Search for the last ten years by default |
| Copies or docket | $0.50 per page | Paper copies of available public material |
| Certification | $40 | Certified court record |
Ask the clerk before mailing if the likely page count or an older archive search makes the total unclear.
How an Inyo Criminal Case Moves
An arrest or citation creates the law enforcement side of the record. A criminal court case begins when a complaint is filed. At arraignment, the court states the charges and addresses the plea and release issues. Pretrial work can include negotiations, motions, evidence questions, jury planning, and scheduling. A plea, trial, dismissal, or other ruling then produces the disposition. If guilt is established, the court records a sentence such as a fine, probation, county jail, or a CDCR commitment.
Case flow: Charges Filed › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
Inyo local rules require counsel to prepare for settlement and trial-management topics at the criminal pretrial conference. A missed court date can also cause the judge to issue a bench warrant. The docket, not a booking log, is the place to check what followed.
Inyo County Criminal Calendars
The court posts daily calendars by 10:00 a.m. for the next court day and weekly calendars each Thursday by noon for the following week. They help verify a near-term date and assigned department. Still, the court warns that a calendar may change after posting. Confidential matters do not appear.
The Inyo court calendar page provides the current links used for those lists.

Use the calendar as a scheduling aid, then call the clerk if travel to Bishop or Independence depends on the posted assignment.
Inyo ePay-it Is Not a Docket
The ePay-it tool serves payment and citation tasks. It can search by case or ticket number, by name with date of birth, or by vehicle plate. Those choices are useful for an eligible fine, citation, payment plan, or invoice. They do not turn the payment system into a complete Inyo County criminal court database.
| Search Field | Type | Best Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Case or ticket number | Text | Known payment matter | Does not supply the full file |
| Name and date of birth | Text and date | Locate an eligible citation | May not return every criminal case |
| Vehicle plate | Text | Vehicle-linked citation | Not a person-wide court search |
The official Inyo ePay-it search is pictured below.

If the result must establish charges or disposition, return to the court records request rather than relying on a payment screen.
Case Record Access and Restrictions
Public access does not mean every fact is visible in every channel. Juvenile files are generally confidential. Sealed or relieved cases can be restricted, and calendar lists omit confidential matters. Victim and witness contact details, protected information, and material covered by a sealing order may be withheld or redacted. The clerk can explain the access process but cannot disclose a protected file merely because a name searcher asks.
California DOJ summary criminal history is also different from an Inyo County court file. Penal Code section 11105 restricts the state master record, while the subject may obtain their own fingerprint-based Record Review. To follow an arrest into filed charges, use the local Inyo County criminal court case; to review custody intake instead, use the arrest lookup.
